The Generalized Degrees of Freedom of the Interference Relay ChannelAbstract:
The symmetric two-user Gaussian interference relay channel (IRC) is studied from an generalized degrees of freedom (GDoF) perspective. While it is known that the relay does not increase the degrees of freedom (DoF) of the IRC, such a characterization has not been reported for the GDoF yet. A novel transmission scheme, which is based on a combination of compute-forward, decode-forward, and interference neutralization is developed. The proposed scheme characterizes the GDoF of the IRC for a wide range of channel parameters. It turns out that a relay can indeed increase the GDoF of IRC.
