Implementation of base-band MIMO-OFDM communication systems
Multiple antennas are adopted in advanced wireless communication systems for higher data throughput. Transmission of
broadband signal via Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) channel may suffer from fluctuation in channel spectrum. Only
within a small range, the spectrum does not vary significantly. Thus, to transmit high data rates, many narrow band
subcarriers should be used. To make the subcarriers easy to be separated on receiver side, orthogonal subcarriers are
used, and that is called Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM).
The implementation of a base-band MIMO-OFDM communication system consists of mapper and demapper (PSK, QAM), OFDM
modulation and demodulation (IFFT and FFT), cyclic prefix, frequency selective (Rayleigh) fading channel and MIMO
detector on the receiver side. More advanced tasks include implementation of channel coding schemes and channel
estimation. The features of MIMO systems shall be visualized.
C++ is preferred as programming language. Some basic libraries (Matrix operations, random number generators, etc.) will
be provided.
